In January 2014, the World Bank Group revitalized its engagement with faith-based and religious organizations based on a recognition that they are often doing the essential work on the frontlines of combatting extreme poverty, protecting the vulnerable, delivering essential services and alleviating suffering.
The Faith Initiative team serves as a bridge for faith actors looking to engage with the World Bank Group and as a resource to better equip and support World Bank Group staff. The team colalborates with units across the Bank and works closely with the United Nation through the Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion and Development to advance shared development priorities.

Faith-based organizations are often structured around development and/or relief delivery programs and are sometimes ran simultaneously at the national, regional and international levels. Moreover, faith-based and religious entities contribute distinctive assets, resources, and capabilities in combatting poverty and boosting shared prosperity.
