Turkey’s growth slowed from 6.1 percent in 2015 to 2.9 percent in 2016, as the failed coup attempt depressed consumer and business confidence. The rebound in global oil prices led to a widening current account deficit, while the rapid depreciation of the Lira and a poor harvest drove inflation higher. Meanwhile, the pace of poverty reduction lost momentum.
